Sometimes you have to throw away an opening you like. In early October I rewrote the start of the game.
The new story: you worked twelve years on the line at Holloway Components in the Ironworks. Last week they shut it down. Everybody is out, and all you have left is a $900 severance on your BuckUp account. The game opens on a black screen with exactly that, and then it is 18:30 in your flat and somebody knocks.
It is Dale, a colleague from the line, and he has an idea. The old plant is still standing, your files are still on its server, and there is an old broken test printer nobody will miss. So your first night is a quiet break-in. If the guard sees you, you start again at the fence.
The next morning you buy a printer of your own, and while it prints, the tutorial sends you round the bins in the back lanes for parts to repair the old one. The repair is hands on, just like the bench: parts into their places, then the screws. By the evening of day two you have two printers running and your first regular has texted.
The business starts out legal, with spare parts for the shooting range, paid on BuckUp. Where it goes from there, you will find out yourself.
